Book Description
Veronica St. John is facing the challenge of a lifetime. The media consultant has two days to teach a rugged Navy SEAL to impersonate a European prince who has been targeted by terrorists. It's a tough assignment, but Veronica is sure she's up to the task -- until she actually meets Joe.

Despite his physical resemblance to the handsome prince, Lieutenant Joe Catalanofto is nothing like the stuffy aristocrat. Everything about the combat-hardened Navy SEAL -- from the arrogant gleam in his eyes and streetwise attitude to the New York accent -- says regular guy, not royalty. One conversation and Veronica knows nothing could turn this military man into nobility. Joe, on the other hand, is confident he's got what it takes to complete his duty.

But neither of them expects their assignment to include falling in love . . .

Prince Joe by Suzanne Brockmann
Silhouette Intimate Moments # 720 - June 1996

Joe aka Joe Cat is in command of Alpha Squad. They get the dirtiest and most dangerous jobs. During Desert Storm they are ordered into Baghdad to retrieve an errant Prince of an obscure European country. When coming face to face with the Prince Tedric, Joe is shocked to find that it's like looking into a mirror. Now years later, the Prince is in the US on tour and there are threats on his life. Joe is ordered to play the Prince's double, much to his distaste. Because of the Prince's stupidity, one of Joe's team members is now permanently disabled. Veronica came to know and later work for the Prince, through the Prince's sister Princess Wila. She's the media consultant in charge of making sure everything goes smoothly on the tour. It's also now her job to see that Joe learns about the Prince and royal protocol, so that the public and the terrorists will be fooled by Joe's impersonation. But Veronica feels its a losing battle. It's impossible to teach this arrogant Bronx New Yorker any fine manners. Ronnie and Joe have a blast getting in each other's faces

Excellent read! ... I like the slow build up in their relationship. Though the attraction is there from the start, their feelings take time to grow giving us the chance to get to know Ronnie and Joe. The story holds lots of action and suspense. Great romance!

Laughably Awful!

Prince Joe is a sorry rip off of Miss Congeniality (which, of course is a version of Pygmalion, as are many variants, but Prince Joe most closely copies Miss Congeniality), missing all the charm and wit of the original.

The "story" concerns a cowboy, no er I mean a cop, no it was a vampire, no, wait, I've got it, a SEAL. Well, it doesn't matter since the characters are all two dimensional cardboard cutouts as opposed to real people. So, Joe the SEAL has to impersonate a prince. The prince is an ugly fop, Joe is stunning manly man, yet they are identical, so it all works. So, since Joe is a SEAL, and therefore can do absolutely anything, he perfectly mimics the Prince. He even speaks every language necessary. Oh, and he can fix or blow up anything, and he can have any woman he wants, oh, and this is the really funny one, he can "fly anything from helicopters to the stealth bomber and probably the space shuttle if he had to." Seriously, she actually said that! I did a little math in my head and I figure that in order to get qualified on every flying machine out there Joe must be over 350 years old. Wait, maybe he is a vampire, not a SEAL?

Unfortunately, while this is all silly and easily pushed aside, it is highly insulting to pilots of all stripes to say that a typical SEAL can do everything they do and more. I could never play golf like Tiger Woods, but he could never play hockey like I do. Life just doesn't work that way.

So, Joe the whatever is originally from New York, except that part way through the book that becomes New Jersey. I know that people are always mixing those two up, just like Idaho and Iowa, but come on. I think a professional writer should be able to get her characters straight. Therein lies the problem, however. The plot, such as it is, boils down to two VERY INSECURE people who spend the entire novel going "he loves me, he loves me not, she loves me, she loves me not." So, there is no plot. Well, without plot and without characters, you have pages and pages or meaningless words signifying nothing. Aside from the two main characters, the supporting cast is a bunch of stock extras sent over from central casting.

One plus in this book. Unlike so many romance novels today, this isn't an excuse for porn. Rather than the standard graphic sex scene every 4-5 pages, this one refrains from sex and vulgarity until about 2/3 of the way through. Then the first sex scene actually had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes! After the second sex scene, they break up. It doesn't matter why, the formula dictates time for the breakup. Then, well, then Dexter in the Dark came out, and I put this trash down as fast as gravity would take it!

Fortunately, I have been saved from the remainder of Prince Joe by the ever reliable serial killer Dexter.

Neat concept but thoughts and actions ruined it for me.

I loved the two main characters and the storyline, but the book should have been about 1/2 of the length. The author filled the story with endless ruminations within the characters' minds. They both kept assuming the wrong things about the words the other said. CAUTION SPOILERS: For example, he asks her to marry him, she says no because they are from two different worlds. He thinks she means he is too low class for her, but what she really meant was she didn't want to live with the fear that his work as a Navy Seal would keep putting his life in danger. So, he leaves her thinking the wrong thing. A second example is at a social function, she comes up to him and asks him to dance. He says stay the hell away from me (because his role is to be a target for a shooter and he wants her safe, which she should know), but she walks away thinking he doesn't like her, which was false. There were additional wrong assumptions causing conflicts which ruined the book for me. Sexual content: mild.

Due to his incredible likeness to a European royal, Navy SEAL Team Lead Joe Catalanotto is recruited to step in as the royal to foil an assassination attempt. Royal media consultant Veronica is given the dubious honor of transforming the roughneck into Prince Tedric, a man whom Joe loathes due to his culpability in the injury of one of his team members during a rescue operation in the Middle East. The last thing that Veronica expects is to fall for Joe and his sexy, wily ways. After a couple days cooped up together, she is finding that Joe is more of a prince that the man he's impersonating. After several events, including a visit to a hospice where a dying girl wants to meet "a real prince," Joe is feeling the emotions of his situation also. Trying desperately not to fall for Ronnie, they both fail miserably, and fall passionately in love. But can Ronnie forget about the danger that he places himself in daily?

The first in the TDD SEAL Alpha Team series, it has one of Brockmann's sexiest and most humorous heroes ever. The chemistry between the two sizzles off the pages and you a get a real feel for the other SEAL team members - and cannot help but want to read more about each and every one of them.

Wish i had a Sailor/Prince Joe to call my own!

I read this book the first time 7 years back and left a lasting impression on me, that's why when i came across it again after so many years i felt compelled to buy it and read again. Oh Boy am i glad i bought it! Since last time i read it i have read many romance novels, many great one and many bad ones too. i thought i might not like it so much the second time around because of all the exposure i have got to romance novels since then but i was wrong. This book still made my heart race, made me smile at Joe's attempts to make Ronnie laugh and still made me sigh at that sparks of atraction flying between them.
Joe's character was just amazing, and most endearing was his insecurities. Here was a Navy SEAL,one of the toughest possible guys, and he was insecure about his upbringing and background. He felt Veronica would be ashamed to be seen with a guy like him. He was sooooo sweet. He was so cocky, stobborn and arrogant but he was scared of rejection from Veronica. Just goes to show how a person's outward appearence rarely show what is really inside them.
i can't find any more book of this series , i am still searching for them. i know i have to read all of them.
