My First McCammon Book
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-06-15

This was the very first book I read from this author and from then on I was hooked on Robert R. McCammon novels. His writing style always draws you right into the story and really makes you feel like you are a part of the action, adventure and horror.

His books aren't just horror stories, they are an adventure as well.

The book snares you right at the start with the Prologue, detailing how the German U-boat gets sunk by the destroyer, leaving its occupants trapped on the bottom of the ocean in an iron coffin. The story then moves on to the present day (at the time the book was written), some decades later. The Nazi sub rises to the surface near an island in the Caribbean. The locals tow it into shore, not realising what evil lurks inside its metal hull.

A well written horror story that will make your blood run cold and send tingles of fear coursing through your body. Pick this one up and you won't be able to put it down.

Not his best, but a fun read.

I am a McCammon fan so I'm probably a little biased, but this was definately worth the read. It's not as good as Swan Song or Wolf's Hour, but the plot moves you along fast enough with enough twist and turns that you will be done with it before you know it - a sign of a good book.

This had all the making of a terrific horror story (a Nazi sub rising from its watery grave, filled with zombies), but the storytelling was a little stilted. I say this as a HUGE fan of Mccammon, but what it shows that with every book that followed this one (released in 1988!) he got beter and better and better. Even at his worst he rates four stars.

Pretty good little horror story. McCammaon is one of the best writers out there and although this little yarn about undead Nazis in the Carribean is a tad muttled due to the fact that is was his second book, it's still a cool story. Read this then rent the movie BELOW and have a scary night of submarine terror.

This is the second book by McCammon that I read, and again I'm please, ok this is fiction and it can be unbelieveable "SO WHAT" it is a story and a fast paced one at that.
A Nazi Sub rises to the surface after 40 years with the crew mummified and still living due to a VOODOO curse. The towns people, (thinking they have a historical find), tow it into the local harbor. I'm sure you can piece the rest together. Yes, there are vivid scenes of cannabalism that are down right nasty and disgusting, but it is a horror book and if you don't like it you shouldn't read it.
Simply put, I liked "THE NIGHT BOAT" I recommend it to any horror lover. It is an easy read worth the time. Trouble is, it is out of print & hard to find a copy, the flea markets are the best place to try and look for one.
