Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The acclaimed author of the international bestsellers In and Out of the Garden and Sara Midda's South of France turns her genius to the universally shared emotions, charms, and mysteries of childhood.

Each page of Growing Up and Other Vices is a book unto itself. Whimsical little figures illustrate Table Manners ("Do not rummage through the dish to find the tastiest morsel for yourself"); Things You Are Supposed to Grow Out Of . . .; A Noise Brought on by Nature and How to Deal with It; and Behaviour Towards Various Creatures.

In a work that is both enchanting and revealing, Sara Midda wryly observes our adult imperfections. Not a drawing, not a word is untrue, not a moment untouched by a smile of recognition. 52,000 copies in print.

I adore Midda's work and bought this sight unseen. Very clever and charming, but a bit slight in pages. Wonderful insights on the relationships between adults and children. Inspiring artwork.

This book was quite entertaining. There were many things that I could relate to. I really like Sara's watercolors and figure representations.
Would be a novel gift for someone.

Delightful. Brings a smile to your face. Reminds you not to take things too seriously. Illustrations are miniature works of art.

Sara Midda reveals her keen sense of observation and sensitivity as she turns her attention to the topic of childhood. Her wonderful illustrations remind us of how mysterious, confusing, wonderful and painful the world of children can be, and how often children are misunderstood. It will probably help parents and grown-ups understand their children (by reminding them of what it was like to be a child) more than any self-help book.
