Yes, this is a movie any horse lover should own. But the value goes well beyond the love of horses and to the issues of faith, family love and common decency. And what a great story about a horse who knows who really loves him as he tries at every turn to escape from his cruel trainer. Great ending that also demonstrates decency and ethics as the original owner sees what is going on and that the horse belongs where the girl and her family live. And the faith issue comes in because the girl had such faith that doing what was right would bring blessings. Blessings such as an end to a drought, her father being able to keep the money he got for selling the horse in order to buy seed, and blessings in knowing that good can win in the end.1o star

I was horse crazy from as far back as I can remember. I saw "Gypsy Colt" when I was 8 years old and he became my "dream horse". I am now 56 and I still love the movie and that horse. I would recommend this movie to everyone...even those who aren't horse crazy would enjoy it.

It's Lassie as a horse, young Joe Carraclough as a girl, and bonnie England traded in for the American West... But the story (based on Eric Knight's Lassie Come Home novel) remains the same: Child finds pet; child loves pet; child loses pet; pet goes on an arduous journey; child and pet are reunited. Despite the lack of originality in the story, it is very well done here and the horse, Gypsy (played by Highland Dale, credited as Gypsy), is not only stunningly beautiful, he's a very talented actor to boot. In the end, Gypsy outdoes Lassie when he brings a miracle home with him.

51 years ago, my father took me to see "Gypsy Colt". Of all the horse movies I've seen & all the horse books I've read, Gypsy Colt is the one that I recall with the fondest memories.
What can be any better- ride your coal black horse bareback to school & Gypsy will be there to give you a ride back home after school.
Gypsy was the name I gave to one of my favorite horses.
It is a happy story with Meg & Gypsy reunited at the end.
I believe it is a must see for all young people who love horses
& must see for adults - we need more movies like this.
